GLInn

Known as Ohio's oldest running inn and restaurant, the Golden Lamb was established in 1803.  Over the century it has undergone some renovations and additions allowing the public to dine and sleep within the history it still presents to us today.  Twelve United States presidents have visited the hotel, as well as the infamous writer Charles Dickens.

Ghost stories about previous owners and patrons have developed over the years, and the ghost who recieves the most attneion is that of a little girl.

Sarah

Some believe her to be the ghost of Sarah, the niece of Isaac Stubbs who owned the hotel in the 1800's. The problem is, Sarah passed away when she was an adult, but could it be her ghost reverting back to childhood and a time when life was more simple and fun?  A photo of "Sarah's room" which holds a couple of items that actually belonged to her as a child when she lived in the hotel:

People believe the ghost of Sarah manifests as a child because the little girl's ghost was not seen until Sarah's belongings were moved from the Harriet Beecher Stowe room to what now holds the museum's display of the 1800's bedroom.  Others feel the ghost of the little girl is Eliza Clay, the daughter of Henry Clay, w ho passed away as a c hild in 1825 due to an illness with a high fever.  Another ghostly report includes that of Charles R. Sherman who became an Ohio Supreme Court Judge in 1823.  Judge Sherman died at the hotel in 1829.

We arrived early in the afternoon and ate lunch in the tavern.  While enjoying our food I had a view of the restaurant and noticed residual energy that took the form of women dancing in long, Victorian dresses.  I’m assuming that during the time period when the new additions were built, the restaurant area held balls and parties.  The room we stayed in was the Harriet Beecher Stowe room on the fourth floor, directly across from Sarah’s room.  After reading information posted on Sarah's room, we learned that the Harriet Beecher Stowe room was originally Sarah’s room, and when they moved her belongings to the room that currently houses the items, the ghost of the little girl became active.

On the second floor, which consists mostly of dining rooms and a couple of private guest rooms, we sensed the spirit of an older man.  After taking some photos while following our senses, we captured what we believe to be a paranormal anomaly as seen below.

Following the energy of a man that manifested into an orb (see above), I stepped into the hallway and took this photo:

And further down the hallway to the main staircase we encountered a second form of paranormal energy:

While I followed the two entities upstairs, Hans followed a very strong, active energy in one of the main dining rooms on the second floor.  He captured an impressive photo of an orb in motion (top right) as well as an orb in front of the table.  Please note we did conduct experiments to debunk this photo and were unable to create the same "form of light".

We spent some time on the fourth floor since we heard and sensed “someone” walking up and down the hallway.  Just across from our room, next to Sarah’s room was a bench.  We sat on that bench in silence, during the late hours of the night experiencing the feeling of being touched, clearly hearing footsteps walking the length of the hallway and using our dowsing rods to communicate.

What I sensed on the fourth floor was the spirit of a young girl who seemed to be having fun with us.  She moved quickly, and we had the most experiences when we took breaks from investigating.  When sitting on the bench having a personal conversation I was touched on my right arm.  I turned quickly and asked if that was the girl the call Sarah.  We heard giggling and the energy disappeared.  Our opinion resulted in the fact that the girl spirit enjoyed running, hiding and watching people.  She is well aware of her “powers” and that she can hide from people easily after childishly obtaining their attention.

Inside the Harriet Beecher Stowe room we experienced a lot less ghostly activity. The few hours we decided to sleep into the early hours of the morning were done so quietly and peacefully.  The room is located directly to the right once you set foot on the fourth floor.

Being as old as the building is, it has settled tremendously causing extremely loud, creaking floors and gaps as large as a half an inch around the door frames (see photo below).  We were able to see out into the hall on the top portion of the frame as well as the bottom of the frame, under the door.  The hotel is open as a living museum throughout the day to the public, so the foot traffic was nonstop until the late hours of the night.

Before falling asleep, with the lights turned off in our room, we could easily see the bright hallway lights streaming in from the other side of the door.  We noticed what looked to be a full body, the size of a child, walk up the last step and right past our room.  This happened a couple of times but we did take note and monitored it for any reoccurrence before falling asleep.

We awoke early the next morning at approximately 6am and while we took our time getting ready, we noticed the “shadow figure” walking up the steps and passed the door into our room again.  We watched it take place twice more, and then I silently walked to the door, put my ear against it and heard nothing.  As I stood there, we saw it pass through again. We quickly opened the door only to see and hear no one physical walking up or down the stairs or the hallways.

The ending of our stay proved to be paranormally intriguing.  We left the Golden Lamb Inn hypothesizing that the Inn is haunted, but also with disappointment that it was not as active as we had hoped.  In ending, whether you experience ghosts or not, you will indeed experience a warm, welcoming trip back in history in beautiful Lebanon, Ohio.
